@Photorat I did adjust the Ektar so it would be more true to the experience, which sort of kissed blue hour (only for a few short minutes). That does make it a little apples to oranges. Ektar is still my favorite color film of note! Certainly of the ones you can buy (*pours one out for Velvia 50 ... especially in sheets*).

Ektar can be a bear to scan though and I find it triumphantly shines when printed on RA4 so that's where I'll be fully judging the results. That said, the Velvia was just a flatbed scan (they both were) so to fully judge both I'd have to get a drum scan. Or at least camera scan the Velvia (something I'll be doing soon to compare) as I suspect that'll give me better results than I tend to wrangle from the flatbed. The scan has vibrant colors, sure, but they're nowhere near the vibrancy of looking at it in person.

Back to Ektar, the straight scan is warmer than the image I shared. In fact, as I recall, I used a warming filter on at least some of the shots fearing things would go too blue (though in hindsight that's more of what I think I wanted). I have some notes but they're incomplete so I don't know when I used the filter or not :) In part because I didn't have my cool field notebook that I designed =) but also because right after taking the last exposure was when the college kids rolled up where I ended up taking their portrait and hanging out with them for a while.

That explains why the Velvia I think looks maybe more "normal" from a white balance sort of standpoint. The colors are definitely a little surreal since that's what Velvia does. I also shot this on Provia though I haven't scanned that in yet. Between Velvia and Provia, for this scene I much prefer the Velvia. That seems true for most of my reversal sheets, but definitely not all of them.

The unfortunate part is you can't easily print slide in the darkroom without having to do RA4 reversal stuff and so Ektar does get a minor nod there as I can make a pure analog print with it. That's where I definitely get the most accurate and best color from color negative film, especially Ektar.
