Partly because I have a terrible memory
I make a big year overview of all the nice, wonderful, interesting that happened last year. Usually I will stick some papers together and with coloured pencils write / draw events in (looking back in my agenda and notebook) then add positive associations and people involved
One of the things that is definitely going in for 2023 is creating and teaching a seminar on effect research of games
What would be one of your things of 2023?
#joinin #overview
@priscillaharing what a nice idea
I started to play flute again this year, that will be on the list.
I'd be interested to read any research you produce about games.
For myself, I became a State Chess Champion this year, meeting a load of nice people while doing it 🙂
@priscillaharing I saw some amazing art this year. Incredible paintings in Milan and two stand out plays that will stay with me for a long time!
@priscillaharing I released my first song this year that I wrote, performed, recorded, produced, and mixed myself. Hopefully I can get quicker at the whole process.
@priscillaharing
Excellent idea. My 2023 was mixed. Quite a lot of it was spent preparing for 2024, when the Peterborough Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers is 100 years old (5th January 2024). So I'll let you know how 2023 went in a year's time!
@Helen50 i am imagining people hanging on big ropes waking up the county 😃 is this correct and do you do this too or do you organise the festivities?
@priscillaharing
I've been ringing this morning, for the Christmas service. So, yes, we probably woke up some of the local population. 🙂
Next year we're having an event each month, so far more to organise than usual. And birthday cake 12 times, because you only get to 100 once, so may as well celebrate it properly!!
@KydiaMusic Wauw wauw wauw 👏🏻 did you enjoy the process?
@priscillaharing For the most part, yeah. There was definitely a huge learning curve to overcome with mixing since I was born with single-sided deafness. And some parts are just always going to be tedious, but at least I can be proud of my first effort.
@KydiaMusic good 👍🏻 next one will probably be much easier/ faster indeed
@priscillaharing I hope so! But it’s hard to say because I keep working a little bit at a time on several songs. 😂
I see you are a vocalist and synth builder! Do you have anything recorded that I could listen to?
@KydiaMusic we have some stuff on bandcamp like my vocal pack https://thisisnotrocketscience.bandcamp.com/album/vocal-pack-boom-link-to-zip 🦜
I also very much like this song we did for 2020-2021 NYE https://thisisnotrocketscience.bandcamp.com/track/twentytwentyone-intelligent-lockdown
@aarblaster which plays? and what about them made them so impressive??
@priscillaharing The Crucible which is one of my all time favourites but I’d never seen live before. It was perfect. Every part of it was serving the story — wouldn’t change a thing about it.
The other was the house of Bernarda Alba which I saw last week. Brilliantly acted. Just fantastic performances.
Two shows like that added to the list of favourites ever - amazing for one year!
@aarblaster (after googling) Witches! Sounds like an intense play - nice to come away with the feeling that nothing should be changed 🙏🏻 Now you mention plays: I got to visit the Globe theatre this year and saw Midsummer with a full female cast, it was intensely weird in the best of ways 🩷
@priscillaharing yes! It’s a modern masterpiece.
Oh amazing— I headed that production was good. Was the globe lovely? There’s something wonderful about a good production there. Particularly the comedies.
@priscillaharing @aarblaster
I saw Midsummer's Night;s Dream at the Globe this summer too. That's part of what I want to take forward from 2023 into 2024, actually doing culture-y stuff, rather than thinking "wouldn't it be nice if"
@Helen50 @aarblaster me too! I bought us both a museum card last year which gives you free entry to most museums in 🇳🇱 but we haven't used it much yet..
Really takes an effort to do things outside of your normal pattern even if they are fun & interesting 💪🏻
@priscillaharing @Helen50 yes more fun. It really does take the effort. It’s so worth it though! A good reminder that it’s worthwhile.
@aarblaster the globe is fabulous - I really get a kick out of that long a history
and open to the elements!
Having a hot cheesy pie and beer while watching really rounded off the experience
Performance was excellent, light on props and decor but because the theatre itself is already such a presence I thought this was perfect
@chestas Winner 🌟 sounds like a lot of fun My research and many other things you can find on my website https://priscillaharing.info/
@chestas @priscillaharing ooh congrats! That’s excellent.
Thanks, I moved from Victoria which has a bigger pool of stronger players, so was probably the favourite but it still felt great to win the title
@chestas @aarblaster I can imagine - I'm just really happy if I can win from my husband (which I did last night) as we are about equally not so great at chess 😋
I've been playing competitively for nearly 50 years, first in England, then Australia after I emigrated in 2005. I guess chess is really a part of me
@chestas @aarblaster are you professional chesser or is there also a day job?
I teach chess in schools and privately. I've been doing this since I moved to Australia
@chestas @aarblaster in the Netherlands I hear chess is immensely popular in high school since the Queen's Gambit - is it like that over there too?
Not so much I think. I haven't seen that much publicised explosion, though I don't know about online players from Australia.
Btw, I played a tournament in Amsterdam in about 1989, and still have some friends there who I keep in touch with
Yes, 2023 Tasmanian Chess Champion 🙂
Thanks, I'll look at your site in the next day or two
@priscillaharing Something like this
I used to play flute for decades, but I stopped in 2015.
Someone invited me to join an orchestra, and that's how I started again :)
@jos70 oh so not a novice then but a return - that sounds so nice to be part of an orchestra
Are you doing performances?
@priscillaharing I did in November, and I will perform again next November.
In Amsterdam.
Do you like classical music (1750-1850 AD)?
@priscillaharing It is really nice to play again in a group, I didn't realise how much I missed it.
@jos70 i am uninformed in classical music so I have no idea but I would like to find out - where are you performing?
@priscillaharing I think (it's not sure yet) the orchestra will be performing in de Oranjekerk, Amsterdam Oost (Netherlands - I see you live/work in this region too)
November 10th, I will announce it by that time.
@priscillaharing To given an impression of what I might be playing in November 2024 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzITCuc4IbM
(I am studying it now, it's not sure
wether or not we will perform this, but this is the kind of music we play)
