Even before the arrival of #atproto was the question of what #decentralization of the web means quite murky, with multiple competing protocols at different abstraction layers. As frequently said, at one level the web is already decentralized so envisaging pure #p2p is also conceivable, why the need for #activitypub (or whatever) "servers"?

Does anyone have any statistics about the myth of Bluesky's decentralized nature?
I mean I know they have a protocol that allows decentralization, but are there really any other instances?
I'd be really surprised if 0,001% of users were anywhere else than bsky.social.
Looks like nothing has been learned from the #Twitter history and people are happy to enter into a relationship of #dependency again.
If #decentralization is a high #value on the #internet and in #hacker culture, I don't understand why people are now mindlessly following the #bluesky hypetrain like #HinduCows without appreciating what has been built here on #mastodon?
A stern reminder that all centralised social media platforms are owned by fickle billionaires that enforce arbitrary rules whenever they feel like it.
It's not a corporation. It's not a board of suits. It's just one individual that tolerates your existence for as long as you hold some kind of value. They can use you and ban you how and when they want.
Decentralised networks are the future.

NVIDIA was always a Video Accelerator Card for gaming laptops (that ran too HOT!).
Since you all have been pushed into brain-dead mobile phones; Gaming Laptop sales plummeted and so did NVIDIA cards.
These #NEW_NVIDIA cards also ran very hot and when placed into laptops and would burn up the motherboards.
Unfortunately #USE_CASE OF THESE ACCELERATOR CARDS.. Failed Miserably.
But when Bitcoin mining came into the picture they found an actual viable #CASE_USE for these cards. However the problem THAT EACH RIG COST ALMOST $5000 each.
Rendering bitcoin decentralization UNSUSTAINABLE in terms of AFFORDABLE SCALABILITY while Privacy coins like monero mining runs on basic CPU chips??
