Hey #believeinfilm friends,
This February's member newsletter is out! I talk about film prices, new software for film photographers (which I'm building), and doing questionable things to Kodak Aerochrome:
https://www.analog.cafe/r/film-prices-aerochrome-and-the-members-handbook-8z1k
As always, thank you all for your support! This blog would not exist without you.
Hey #believeinfilm friends,
Today, I review Vision 3 250D 5207/7207 — a motion picture film that Kodak can not sell you:
https://www.analog.cafe/r/kodak-vision-3-250d5207-film-review-ck26
I also compare it to CineStill 400D, which many say is the same thing (just w/o the remjet). (Spoiler: it's not.)
I used C-41 to process mine (with the remjet removed via pre-bath), which has mostly been good — but there's something you should know before you do that yourself. ☝️
Hey #believeinfilm friends,
The US is introducing new border taxes (tariffs) this year, which may affect Kodak film prices. My thoughts on the matter:
https://www.analog.cafe/comments/pgan
For Canadians: I don't think film prices should be affected immediately; this particular product is not on the list of retaliatory import fees.
Woot! Actually took a large format photo of what I visualized I was taking a photo of, I’m quite pleased with this one.

Hey #believeinfilm friends,
Looks like Kodak shared a few new numbers with their sellers (Kosmo Foto reveals). Many of these numbers are the annual film price increases (to keep pace with inflation). Some of these increases are pretty steep, like +30% for Gold. But others are going in a different direction!

Will you hoard any film this year?
Hey #believeinfilm friends,
Looks like Kodak will be pausing film production this November to make some serious factory upgrades!
https://www.analog.cafe/comments/rq8i
But no shortage of dudes proclaiming that film is just a fad on socials expected in 2025.
Hey #believeinfilm friends,
Today, I review Kodak Vision 3 50D motion picture film:
https://www.analog.cafe/r/kodak-vision-3-50d-52037203-film-review-3q4l
This film works very well with the standard C-41 chemicals (after a pre-bath), which I used in the samples. It's nearly identical to the CineStill version, except for the remjet and some new difficulties in ordering it directly from Kodak.
But if you get hold of it, and have the right tools, you can save big!
Hey #believeinfilm friends,
I've just rewrote my review of CineStill 50D film, complete with new images, technical reference for Kodak Vision 3, exposure tips, and an ultra-high resolution sample scan blow-up:
https://www.analog.cafe/r/cinestill-50d-35mm-c-41-film-review-l0tw
Have any of you shot this film? And what do you think of it compared to Vision 3 50D, if you shot that also?

Hey #believeinfilm friends,
Today, I review Lomography Color Negative 800 film, which suspiciously looks like Portra 800—but it's not!
https://www.analog.cafe/r/lomography-color-negative-800-film-review-y45b
This film has some unique properties, though overall, it's an excellent stock with reasons to like it more than the Kodak-branded options. In the above article, I refer to an experiment with ISO 800 colour-negative film stocks my friends and I staged to determine if/how they're different.
Hey #believeinfilm friends,
I recently learned that Eastman Kodak has tightened its rules on bulk film sales. They are now blocking purchases unless they are meant for movie production:
https://www.analog.cafe/comments/up67
This can mean a lot of things for our choices as film photographers as it affects many small businesses.
Reflx Lab confirmed this for me, and I've also received a comment from Analogue Wonderland on this topic.
Thoughts?
Hey #believeinfilm friends,
I just published a guide on how to remove remjet from Kodak Vision 3 film using two methods (soda & ECN-2 formula):
https://www.analog.cafe/r/how-to-remove-remjet-and-develop-cinema-film-in-c-41-1voz
The guide also explains what remjet is exactly and its effects on our images, how it works, and why you'd want to keep it or have it removed.
I use C-41 to develop my cinema film (using the methods described above). Do you prefer ECN-2? If so, why?
Cheers,
Hey #believeinfilm friends,
I wrote this review two years ago. Reading it back, it became apparent to me that I've grown as a writer or that my old stuff sucked. So I rewrote the whole thing, and added new photos:
Kodak Gold 200 Film Review
https://www.analog.cafe/r/kodak-gold-film-review-chsw
This film has been one of the most popular colour emulsions on the market since the 1940s when it was called Kodacolor (and had a totally different chemistry).
Hey #believeinfilm friends,
I've just updated my popular review of Kodaks's Pro Image 100 — a film that many consider to be a slept-on treasure.
https://www.analog.cafe/r/kodak-pro-image-100-film-review-kf6t
Designed to emulate the more expensive Portra stocks, Pro Image does that exceptionally well. I've used it extensively while making a guide on building pastel colour schemas on film and I've had excellent luck with it whenever it's in the camera.
I captured #DownloadFestivall 2024 in a unique way! Embrace the #vintage vibes of tiny, grainy 13x17mm photos shot on a 1990s Soviet-made camera.

Hey #believeinfilm friends,
Last week I wrote about Cinema Shorts, my anniversary-edition packs of Kodak Motion Picture film. Thank you to everyone who bought some and supported this project!
I've since had the chance to test the film and develop it at home with my aging C-41 kit with some baking soda.
I think I found my favourite film.

Hey #believeinfilm friends,
You may've heard that Kodak Alaris was recently sold to a private holdings group. If not, here's the scoop:
Posted this at midnight last night. Here it is again for the morning people:
"All the C-41 ISO 800 Colour Films, Compared"
https://www.analog.cafe/r/all-the-iso-800-colour-films-compared-b5eu
Do you think there's any difference between Portra 800, Lomo 800, Aurora 800, and FunSaver films?
Can you identify them from these photos?
(the answer is in the linked article).
Hey #believeinfilm friends,
I've got a midnight (for me) edition read for you:
"All the C-41 ISO 800 Colour Films, Compared"
https://www.analog.cafe/r/all-the-iso-800-colour-films-compared-b5eu
I wrote this for monthly supporters, but you can preview a good chunk of it if you aren't. I ran this experiment with Daren and Yvonne, whose videos you can also watch for free (linked in the article).
Do you think there's any difference between those films? Or is it all just Kodak Portra 800?
I should finally get back to posting my photos of #London from 2015. I was shooting #Kodak Tri-X!
Here are three photos from the night we arrived. I LOVE how black these night photos came out!
Our hotel was near Westminster Bridge. That's as far as we got that night.
1. Big Ben at night
2. Street scene near Westminster Palace and Big Ben
3. The London Eye.
Hey #believeinfilm friends,
I'm giving away my Kodak Ektar H35N film camera!
Share this and leave a comment here: https://www.analog.cafe/r/giveaway-kodak-ektar-h35n-half-frame-film-camera-kne7 to enter the sweepstakes.
